If you are unsure about the direction your business or organisation should be heading at present, then here is a good solution.
With the prevailing uncertainty, as financial organisations, automotive industries, educational institutes, governments, industries, etc., undergo a massive transformation, here is a bright ray of hope.

Introducing Cause No HarmTMa simple but effective solution to business or organisational sustainability.

It is not about perpetuating the same old, redundant, business methods and getting the same unworkable results. This is about growing your business in an ethical, sustainable way, where the fullest potential of your co-workers and co-creators is brought to the fore.
It is about creating more harmony within your business or organisation and beyond, to the communities you serve and the family of humanity.
It is the provision of expert guidance on how to move forward to the benefit of all, rather than the few.
It is about taking a good business or organisation and improving and expanding it in line with the new paradigm shift.

My name is Rick Pursell and over the past 22 years of working in multi-national corporations, I have come to learn some very workable strategies that can improve your business or organisation and send it to the next level; the level that society, employees, stakeholders and I am sure, you, are now seeking.

Let’s start with three current emerging trends:

  1. The business and organisational world is undergoing a huge transformation into new sustainable ways of conducting themselves
  2. Many of the old ways of doing business, no longer serve humanity
  3. From this transformation, will emerge a more balanced approach to business, based on the greatest good, for the greatest number

It is pretty obvious that many large and small businesses and organisations around the world are being dismantled, as their operating basis is no longer workable. This may be likened to giving birth to a child; it is an uncomfortable, painful and often disturbing process, but in the end the joy of new life overrides the pain.
So it is with the transformation of businesses and organisations, they experience discomfort at facing change, pain as sometimes jobs or profits are lost and certainly disturbance at the uncertainty that prevails. But out of chaos comes order and this is where we must focus our attention – the net end result of where we want to be in the future.

It is however, not a case of throwing out the baby with the bath water(!), but instead, sifting through the existing business practices that do work and letting go of those that clearly don’t. Then, creatively building a bridge from the old to the new paradigm.
I once learnt a very powerful lesson about life through the observation of where martial arts experts put their attention. Let’s imagine a martial arts expert wants to break a piece of timber with his bare hands. The timber is suspended between two sets of bricks, ready to be struck and broken into two.

Where does the expert aim? Is in the middle or to one side of the timber? As it turns out, it is neither; he or she aims for the space below, imagining there is no obstacle or barrier in their way, the hand slices through the timber and reaches the point being aimed for.

This is where we must focus our attention, not on the barriers or obstacles in our way, but on where we want our business or organisation to be in the future.

Cause No HarmTM is a practical philosophy, which is inculcated as a culture within your organisation, reflecting your values, business ethics, strategy and forms the foundation on which your organisation will be built and expanded upon to achieve your vision and beyond.

Services

To help leaders achieve a culture of Cause No HarmTM, we provide:

  •     Leadership development programs
  •     Meaningful presentations
  •     Executive and employee coaching

During 2008, the world was shocked by the collapse of several huge financial institutions, automotive giants trekking cap in hand to the US Government for bailout packages and staggering economic downturns in leading and smaller nations.

The commercial sector along with many other areas are undergoing a massive transformation and with it, the need to change their operating basis, as clearly it no longer serves the greatest good for the greatest number. The manner of doing things needs to change through the process of culling what was successful from the old ways, building a connecting bridge and developing more all-encompassing, integrated business practices.

In other words, the time for a vast array of paradigm shifts is nigh.

Cause No HarmTM is a highly successful tool to bring about greater harmony, stronger more solid relationships, more respect, higher productivity and ultimately, increased profitability. It is a paradigm shift away from pure profits at the expense of employee’s welfare, the working and living environment and a decline in the standard and quality of life for future generations. It takes our thinking away from short-term gains, to sustainable, ethical ideas and actions that benefit everyone. In short it moves us away from egocentricity to global-centricity, where we consider the impact of our actions broadly and take responsibility for the outcomes.

Work

Cause No HarmTM Principles:

Everything that an organisation or business does, will have as its first consideration, the idea that it must Cause No HarmTM to:

  • Ourselves as individuals,
  • Other people,
  • Our equipment whether owned or leased, materials or other’s assets,
  •  The environment in which we work,
  • The planet as a whole
  • Future generations, who will inherit the legacies we leave behind.

The organisation or business nurtures this as a core value and through an ongoing education programme and guidance, inculcates the value of Cause No HarmTM as part of the organisation or business’s culture.

Methodology:

One of our consultants will work closely with you to determine the current culture of your organisation or business and what perceived changes need to occur.

They will then familiarise themselves with your organisation or business to get a working knowledge of what it is you do, your vision and mission, challenges and opportunities to improve.

Cause No HarmTM process, based on your timeline and budget, is then developed to implement the cultural change and includes:

  • An entry and familiarisation meeting with senior key players
  • Training sessions for senior and middle managers
  • Supervisor training sessions
  • Employee training sessions
  • Regular newsletters
  • Mentoring and support
  • Guidance on Policy statement changes
  • Reinforcement of the message through hardware
  • Suggestion scheme
  • Rewards and recognition scheme

Testimonials

Cause No Harm

It is my pleasure and privilege to provide this testimonial for Rick Pursell and his cultural change process – Cause No Harm.

As a young, dynamic and fast expanding company, we engaged Rick to guide our corporate responsibility processes and adopted the Cause No Harm philosophy as a core value.
Prior to the implementation of Cause No Harm, our efforts, although moderately effective, did not have the punch or sustainable results we sought. Now, less than two years hence, there is a palpable culture of Cause No Harm within our organisation.

The value of this to our company is that we can visibly demonstrate to our clients, stakeholders and employees that we care. We care for ourselves, other people, the equipment and materials we operate and use, the immediate environment, the planet as a whole and about future generations.

This caring and assessment of whether an action or decision will ultimately result in harm, is a driving consideration, from the Board of Directors, to operational personnel. Where a decision or action may potentially cause harm anywhere across the spectrum, it is re-evaluated and either eliminated or reduced to as low as practicably possible.

Cause No Harm as a core value and driver, has contributed to this company being awarded two key acknowledgements last year.

  • Swiber was ranked Top 5 in the Fastest Growing Internationalising Company (4th November 2008)
  • Swiber was awarded ”Best Under a Billion”Company by Forbes Asia (3rd December 2008)

Changing a culture does not come easy or without some discomfort, but when it is established, it provides a wonderful platform on which growth, harmony and productivity can prevail

This testimonial would not be complete without fully acknowledging the originator of Cause No Harm, Rick Pursell. His credibility, experience, wisdom, level of professionalism and caring, has been the driving force behind the cultural change of our company.
He has, and continues to inculcate the culture of Cause No Harm throughout the organisation, never failing to deliver the right words and guidance. He is thoroughly committed to change, not through force or effort, but from a genuine desire to help people live deeper and more richly rewarding lives. So much so, that by a unanimous vote from his peers, he was awarded the “Bright Idea” award for Cause No Harm, at our recent end of year event.
I can unequivocally endorse both the Cause No Harm process of cultural change and the work of Rick Pursell.
